Cheekwood 1200 Forrest Park Drive Nasvhille, TN 37205 615-356-8000 THE HISTORY OF CHEEKWOOD The history and origin of Cheekwood are intimately interwoven with the growth of Nashville, the Maxwell House coffee brand and the Cheeks, one of the city’s early entrepreneurial families. Christopher T. Cheek moved to Nashville in the 1880’s and founded a wholesale grocery business. His son, Leslie Cheek joined him as a partner. In 1896, Leslie Cheek married Mabel Wood of Clarksville, Tennessee. Their son, Leslie, Jr. was born in 1908 and their daughter, Huldah, in 1915. By that year, Leslie Cheek was president of the family firm.

Williamson Medical Center 4321 Carothers Parkway Franklin, TN 37067 615.435.5000 WMC was established as Williamson County Hospital by an act of the state legislature in 1957. With 50 beds and seven physicians, the hospital treated its first patients in January 1958. The Hill-Burton Act provided federal funds to build the hospital, meaning its mission included a focus on providing care without discrimination and regardless of ability to pay. In all ways, Williamson’s beginning was driven by the desire to provide care, to show compassion, to help neighbors. That desire is still a guiding principle today.

Water Safety Campaign 2008 The program was started by the Safe Kids Homer, Alaska, coalition. Kids Don’t Float provides lifejackets for boaters and swimmers on loaner boards near docks and other open water access sites, as well as an educational component for kids in local schools.
